Texas Acro at GAT

Several Texas acrobats were recognized at this year’s Gymnastics Association of Texas (GAT) Honors Ceremony in Austin, TX, over Labor Day weekend. Athletes and coaches are presented certificates for being national champions and/or representing the USA Gymnastics in international competitions. GAT holds an annual convention offering seminars, speakers and networking for all gymnastics disciplines in Texas. Judge Brandi Wren of Dallas presented several seminars on Acro during the weekend aimed at educating gym owners and coaches across the state about the sport.

The Texas Acrobatic Gymnastics Association (TX Acro) also held its annual meeting at GAT, which included the election of new officers and determination of the 2018 competition schedule. Brandi Wren was elected as State Director, Jennifer Stone as Secretary and Ashley Rosilier as Treasurer. Stone and Rosilier have both been active in the Acro community for several years, but are new to serving on the TX Acro board.

Another order of business was the establishment of an Emergency Fund to provide assistance to TX Acro member clubs experiencing unusual hardship. The officers voted to make the first distribution from this fund to Texas Academy of Acrobatic Gymnastics (TAAG), located in Baytown, Texas, to assist them with repairs following flooding from Hurricane Harvey. Going forward clubs may apply for a distribution from the Texas Acro Emergency Fund by contacting one of the officers. GAT has also established a relief fund for Texas gyms affected by Harvey, and donations may be made via their website.
